Ice Skating, Ice, Ice, & More Ice!!

This Winter we are trying out some new activities in our home. One of which is Ice Skating. Not sure we are ready for the Olympics but we are certainly enjoying our time spent at the rink.

I recently found a post on how to make this cute little “Ice Skating Rink” complete with an ice skater. I of coarse had to do it since it coordinated so well with our new hobby. If you make one…be sure to leave me a comment with a link back to yours so I can check it out!!

Supplies Needed:

  • White Card-stock
  • Blue crayon
  • Blue Water Color, paintbrush, water
  • Salt
  • Cotton Balls
  • Green Construction paper for trees
  • Glue & Scissors
  • Choose your Skater
  • Crayons (for coloring your skater)
  • Cardboard (optional) we used this as the base and then glued our pond on top for sturdiness

How to;

First color a pond shape onto your white cardstock. Then, cut and glue to your card board for sturdiness. Taking the blue water color paint…paint over your colored drawing. Sprinkle with salt to give your pond a glistening affect.

To create skating marks in the ice while it is still wet take anything pointy but not too sharp (a retracted pen, the end of kids scissors, etc.)

While the pond is drying color your skater, make trees (out of green construction paper), and glue cotton balls around the outside edge of your pond (making snow).

Lastly cut and glue your skater and trees in place (careful to leave a tab on the end of both for folding…this is so they will stand)

Voila…you have your own indoor skating pond!

We have also been busy learning about the Arctic, Polar Bears, and Penguins…so I made these yummy treats last night!!

You Need;
Ice Cream
Ice Cream Sandwich
Whip Cream
Chocolate chips

These were super easy and very yummy!! 1 scoop of ice cream on each plate, cut an ice cream sandwich for ears, form the face using whip cream (as much or little as you would like)…you could also use coconut for fur but my kids won’t eat it. Using the chocolate chips give your new friend some eyes and a nose!!

Boo says…”mmmm…thats good Mommy”!!

WEE love Winter

“Wee” love winter…well sort of!! I drink way more coffee, dressing the kids in 10 layers just to go to the library is not exactly a favorite of mine, and the wet sloppy boots leaving wet puddles on our tiny landing is priceless.
Other that that I love Winter!!!

We recently made “hole punch” snowflakes. I must say either my hole punch is really hard to push or this project was just not well suited for my little ones. This was one of those projects looks great but Mommy did the entire thing. I will be switching up a few things next time for sure to make it easier for the munchkins.

I’m not sure if this counts as school, but my little man has been busy at work these days…learning how to use a sippy cup, trying new foods (banana’s being his favorite), and scooting around (mostly backwards) at 7months old…he is happily progressing right along!

Family sledding day… this was the first time for Boo and Mr. Smiles (yes, the baby did go down too). The girls had an absolute blast and Mr. Smiles was a lil’trooper …

This Winter we have had snow on the ground about 95% of the time. Unfortunately, we have not had any good snow storms. The sledding hill is not far from our home and is extremely little kid friendly. The hill tends to be very quiet and not steep (hence why Mr. Smiles got to enjoy a ride with Mommy too)!!

As usual I was trying to capture the moment…just one last picture kids!

As we are chugging right along in our school work, enjoying some family time,  and trying to stay warm in the North. I hope you all are doing the same! Some things up and coming; our 2010/2011 curriculum plans are under way, new chore charts, more field trips, new extracurricular activities, and lots more!!
2011 promises to be a fun filled year for our little ones!!

Ringing in the New Year!

To ring in 2011 this year we went to my parents house for a BIG family sleep over. The guys and my oldest nephew attended a NHL Red Wing hockey game. While the women and little ones stayed behind for some make over FUN!!!
O.K, so Mr. Smiles did not have a make over, but he was happy to hang out with the ladies and his cousin J.J

My little K.Bear wanted to paint her own toe nails…ugh! This was not the first time I let her do this, but I must confess the last time was outside and a lot less stressful. Something about bright pink nail polish, a 2 year old, and a white floor can be REALLY scary!! Luckily, we had an old table cloth to lay out…just in case!!

Check out those toes!!

Pumpkin had been looking forward to our “family sleepover” for days…it was hard to contain her excitement at times. She tried out her blush brush…in an attempt to cover the nasty scratch K.Bear gave her earlier in the day. We have to work on Pumpkins defense….the poor girl is so passive and sweet it is hard for her to ‘fight back’. In the mean time…our continued efforts of discipline for K.bear at times can be very trying and tiring. She is one cute little stinker…who is very familiar with her room, the corner, a rug, spanking, and our most said phrase in our home “listen and obey!”

The girls pose for a quick picture showing off their glimmer and shine make up!!

and…the little man wants to say a quick “Hello”!!

After the little ones went to bed…it was time for Pumpkin and Mommy to try out the Wii Active….O’WOW I have not worked out in a LONNNNG time…after about 10 min of squats a lot of laughs and a sore butt for the 2 days following. Im glad I did it and might look at joining the workout world again in the near future. In my spare time that is (wink, wink)!!

So in a nut shell that is how we spent our New Year..sleeping everywhere in my parents house…laughing, eating, and just enjoying some family time. Although, I do not know what 2011 holds for me or my family…one thing is certain we will be TOGETHER!!
From my family to yours Happy New Year!!
