Outside School

The weather in our little part of the world has been lovely and we have been enjoying every minute! Mommy especially loves the tired kiddos at the end of the day. We have not been doing much “school” (since Easter…really) anything we have done has been on the “fly”! We are starting our summer break you could say. Although, I do have plans to continue with school even in the summer months it will consist more of reading books, hands on learning outside, and field trips! A bit less structured than usual…..

We enjoyed our first picnic with some friends at a near by park. This was great the kids all brought their bikes (of coarse they all wanted to eat as soon as we got there)! The park had lots of shade and plenty to do.

K.Bear soaking up some vit. D in the back yard (she just looked so darn cute…I had to snap a picture)
Near by our house we have an outdoor mall (it is very pretty) I took the girls to play and then we got K.Bears ears pierced (check out Loving Motherhood) for more on that 🙂 The play area is all healthy foods and a pumping heart that makes noise when you climb on it. Some “health education” at its finest!

O.k so it hasn’t been all physical activity we really have been reading too!! Or should I say “eating books”

What are your plans for the Summer? Will you be continuing with school or taking a break? I would love to hear all about it!

Spring/Science Fun

So as I type this post about our wonderful school week continuing with our Spring theme and diving into science there is snow on the ground….aghhhh! I just had to get that out. I am anxiously waiting the warmer weather for walks, park days, hanging laundry outside, and open windows! I feel better now, Thanks 🙂

Now, onto school we made colored ice cubes! Pumpkin loved doing this (she loves anything to do with water). We learned about liquids, solids, and colors all in one!

Need:
1 ice cube tray
food coloring
something to stir with (we used a tsp.)
measuring cup

Here Pumpkin is stirring the colors very carefully (I don’t even think she realized I took this picture)

Here is our pretty tray of what soon would be colored “solids” We made them on Tueday but did not use them until Thursday. When I pulled the colors out of the freezer the excitement began all over again. It was great!

Thursday, I pulled the tray out of the freezer and set out 3 glass cups. Pumpkin could pick 2 ice cubes for each cup and we anxiously waited to see what “new colors” would appear. She was thrilled that Red + Blue = Purple “her favorite”

We put Popsicle sticks in a coffee to-go mug (this lasted about 5 seconds) we counted as she put them in (1-20).

and we enjoyed a quick game of ABC BINGO!!

Onto our next science project “Kidney Bean Sprouts” we counted 8 kidney beans (4 for each baby food jar). We used our new Life Cycles Mats to show the entire process.

Pumpkin shoved a damp paper towel into baby food jars. Carefully put 4 kidney beans in each jar and sealed the lid.
Here is our science “bean plant” Life Cycle Mat!!

Hope you enjoyed our “school” week as much as “Wee” did!!

Recycled Flowers

Recycled Magazine Flowers (Craft Make and Take)

Supplies

Old Magazines

Scissors

Glue

Popsicle Stick

Instructions
Each flower takes two pages of a magazine. Choose pages with lots of color ( I chose national geographic). The more colorful the page the prettier your flower will be. Accordion fold each page. Fold in half and glue the two touching folds. Lay the two half circles in place and glue to touching folds. Cut a circle glue to the center of your flower.

Here is the finished product…we also added popsicle sticks to the end for a stem! Pumpkin (age 31/2) did not really get the hang of the folding (she was getting really frustrated) but our little 41/2 yr old friend was pretty good at it.
